Ian is a PhD Candidate in Rhetoric at the University of Texas at Austin. Within UT’s English Department he has developed and taught courses in rhetoric and composition, environmental writing, digital research methods, and writing pedagogy.
Before arriving in Austin in 2019, Ian first left his home state of Colorado to spend several years in the Pacific Northwest; he studied English Literature at Western Washington University and subsequently obtained his MA in Rhetoric, Writing, and Culture from Oregon State University. In between those stretches of school, he also moved abroad to teach English for two years at a high school in Miyazaki, Japan through the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program.
Now that he hangs his hat here in Texas, though, Ian enjoys exploring Austin’s vibrant local music and food scenes as well as the beautiful natural landscapes throughout the state. That being said, he is most often equally as happy spending time at home with his orange cat, Pico de Gallo.
